Experience: Activation

Kate brought a the redevelopment of a significant waterfront precinct in Sydney to life by engaging with place managers and traders to develop a raft of activities including outdoor cinema, picnics, roving performers, events and art happenings.

Hello City supported the development of The Meadow, a creative workspace and research facility in Southbank, advising on the functionality, concept, theming, fit-out, governance and branding resulting in a space both completely unique and highly functional with a powerful point of difference.

Sunny developed the Community Use and Activation Strategy for a coastal National Park east of Melbourne to give ownership to local groups, businesses, the indigenous community and individuals in the diverse programming of the park’s myriad heritage buildings and stunning spaces.

Kate founded the well regarded artist-run studio and program space on Gertrude Street Fitzroy called CLUBSproject. Kate secured corporate funding from Lion which made the organisation a sustainable commercial model and allowed Kate to develop an organisational structure and practice in collaboration with Terri Bird and Bianca Hester and the other founding members, that is still unique and influential.

Sunny developed a radical new model for the major shopping centre of an Australian state capital, encompassing civic, cultural and community uses, public space, emergent retail strategy and governance arrangements. This model allowed this large big-box style plaza to reinvent itself as a town centre, and cultural heart that welcomed people from all walks of life.

Kate developed the Yarraville Urban Design Framework, reimagining forgotten and unloved spaces in the village as pockets of real civic and community value, turning unloved areas into new gathering spaces

Sunny developed a DIY mainstreets toolkit in collaboration with an innovative inner urban council. This toolkit allowed local traders to work together to develop their own marketing strategies and governance structures, and allowed them to better access council resources in a way that served their needs and aspirations.

Kate worked with a major retail client to develop a new retail and governance model for a significant retail space in Melbourne’s CBD. Kate developed a model that supported emergent traders and cultural practices, and creates a new and exciting retail experience that responds to and celebrates Melbournes laneways, arcades and rooftops.
